JOHN ARRIOLA, DAVIDSON COUNTY CLERK

John is a native and lifetime resident of Nashville. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

John was elected as the Davidson County Clerk in 2006 and before that he was active in Nashville’s health care community. He was Vice President of Nashville Memorial Hospital, a 314 bed acute care facility. John was responsible for managing all construction projects, office building management, retail pharmacy and the home health agency. He also worked with physicians in developing cancer services for the Madison/Old Hickory/Goodlettsville area.

John served as Executive Assistant to U.S. Representative Bob Clement. In 1990 he was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives. Mr. Arriola served as State Representative for the 53rd District for twelve years, six of which he held a leadership position as Assistant Majority Leader.

He led the fight for passage of legislation and funding for Home and Community Based Care in Tennessee. He was instrumental in revising Tennessee’s child care standards and welfare system. John passed the first legislation creating the Traumatic Brain Injury Council, giving families a resource for information and financial aid.
Mr. Arriola has received the Jane Kennedy Excellence in Aging Award and the AARP Home and Community Based Care Award. He is a former board member of the Lupus Foundation, Senior Citizens, Inc., and NAMI.

Continuing his service to the elderly and disabled, John is currently chairman of the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability. Governor Phil Bredesen appointed John as a delegate to the White House Conference on aging in Washington, D.C. There, he helped make recommendations to Congress to renew the Older Americans Act.

John’s mother and father are Norman and Viola Couser of Nolensville, TN. He currently owns the family style restaurant they began in 1987, across from the Nashville Zoo. His wife, Michelle served on the Metro Council for two terms. She is the daughter of J.D. and Anita Elliott of Madison. John and Michelle reside here in Nashville with their two daughters, Katie Elizabeth and Jessica Nicole.

Holidays that fall on a Sunday are observed on the following Monday, while Holidays that fall on a Saturday are observed on the Friday before.
When Christmas Day falls on a Monday, the Christmas Eve holiday will be observed on Tuesday following Christmas Day. When Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, the Christmas holiday will be observed on the following Monday.

Public records maintained by the County Clerk are open for inspection unless specifically made confidential by statute. The gross receipts of a business is one example of a confidential record. Also, under most conditions, motor vehicle records are confidential as stipulated in Tennessee Code Annotated 55-25-104 et al.
