LIQUOR BY THE DRINK LICENSE
To obtain a license to sell liquor by the drink (and “wine only” licenses), you must first begin by obtaining a permit from the State of Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC). The ABC may be contacted by calling (615) 741-1602.

After securing a permit, YOU MUST then bring the permit and the receipt from the ABC to the County Clerk’s office at 523 Mainstream Drive in the Riverview Business Center II at Metro Center to pay the liquor privilege tax. Many people have failed to complete this step after getting their ABC license. Our fee is the same amount that you pay the ABC. The permit is renewable annually. If the business changes ownership, the ABC and this office must issue a new license. “Wine only” licenses are also available. One may apply by mail by sending the appropriate documentation to:

CATERING LICENSE TO SELL ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Businesses currently licensed to sell liquor by the drink may also apply for a caterer's license to sell alcoholic beverages pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. 57-4-101(q). This license may be applied for in the same manner as the Liquor by the Drink license. This license is renewable annually.

PAWNBROKER LICENSE
Businesses applying for a Pawnbroker’s License must first contact the Metro Police Department, Pawn Shop Unit at (615) 862-7506 to request an Application Packet. Once you have received the application packet from the Metro Police Department, complete the packet and bring it to the main office of the County Clerk’s office at 523 Mainstream Drive in the Riverview Business Center II at Metro Center.  To obtain a Pawnbroker’s license your completed application packet and correct payment (cash or money order only) must be submitted to our Business Tax Department at the main office of the County Clerk’s office. (A business license will also be required.) We cannot issue a Pawnbroker License unless the Application Packet is complete. SIDEWALK ENCROACHMENT PERMIT
You will need to complete an Application For Sidewalk Encroachment Permit which we have available in our office.
You will need to provide:

  1. A copy of the insurance policy showing comprehensive general liability coverage not less than $1,000,000. Metropolitan Government of Nashville must be listed on the certificate as an additional insured.
  2. A copy of the driver’s license and three full-face photographs of the owner/vendor operating the stand.
  3. A copy of the driver’s license and three full-face photographs of each employee that will also be operating the stand.
  4. A copy of the health permit (if applicable).
  5. A photograph of the vendor’s stand/cart. The stand/cart will have to meet the size restrictions.

A photo ID will be issued to each person operating the booth/stand/cart in our main office at 523 Mainstream Drive.

You must have a Close Out Business Permit BEFORE you advertise that you are having a Going-out-of-business sale.

DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWALS
The Davidson County Clerk’s Metro Center office is offering driver’s license renewals along with duplications and information changes of Tennessee driver’s licenses and IDs. We only offer this service at our main office at 523 Mainstream Drive in Metro Center and is not available at our satellite locations. We are limited in assisting with all types of transactions however we are very expedient in the services that we do offer. We can usually finish your total transaction within 10 minutes (very short waiting lines).  We are limited to D- & M- class licenses; we cannot process Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs). You may likely need to bring supporting documentation, like certified birth certificate, marriage license, divorce decree, and/or U.S. Passport.

We can assist with name changes due to first marriages.  You will be required to get a new photo so that your DL photo currently looks like you.

  • Issue licenses eligible for reinstatement
  • Taking off the CDL /converting a CDL to a D-class license

  • Name change due to second marriage or due to divorce
  • New to the state/needing to get a new TN DL
  • Issuing new IDs. We can renew or provide a replacement ID

BIRTH CERTIFICATES
Our office is working with the TN Department of Health to issue copies of birth certificates. This future service would provide an additional location for those born in Tennessee to receive a certified copy of their birth certificate.

MONEY ORDERS
Our office is also in process of offering locations to purchase money orders as an added convenience to providing more services.

MOBILE TESTING RENEWALS
SysTech International, the company that manages the emissions testing facilities in Davidson County has mobile testing vans so to conduct emissions tests at areas other than the six Davidson County emissions testing facilities. These mobile testing vans might, for example, test vehicles in a large parking lot or corporate business complex at certain times of the month. The Davidson County Clerk’s office is expecting in late 2008 will be able to provide an emissions test via these vans AND provide you your renewal stickers at the same time.
